Missing Tooth Glasgow

The majority of patients keep their teeth for life, however sometimes teeth can be lost or do not develop.  This advice sheet gives information on some of the techniques that can be used to replace missing teeth.

Methods of replacing missing teeth

Removable partial denture

Made of plastic and/or metal. The adjacent teeth are not affected. It is quickly and easily installed and is relatively cheap.

Resin bonded bridge

An artificial tooth is glued to adjacent teeth. Can potentially look quite good. Not a need to trim down natural healthy teeth. Not as permanent as other options as the glue will eventually fail and have to be reinstalled

Fixed dental bridge

Involves grinding down adjacent teeth to support the bridge. Around 30% chance grind down teeth will require root canal therapy over time

Dental implant supported crown

The new tooth should fit and function like a natural tooth
